Contact Dermatitis

With more than 3 million cases in the US per year, contact dermatitis occurs when the skin is exposed to an allergen or irritant, which leads to an inflammatory response and rash. Some rashes present immediately, while others appear after a delay. Contact dermatitis typically improves with avoidance of the triggering substance and it can often be treated with topical medications.  Poison ivy dermatitis is a classic example of contact dermatitis.
