Moles

Moles, also known as melanocytic nevi, are benign growths of pigment producing cells called melanocytes. Genetics and sun-exposure play a role in their development. Although most moles are completely normal, sometimes they can change and become abnormal and are referred to as atypical or dysplastic moles. The most atypical moles can even transform into melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer. Dermatologists have significant experience evaluating moles and use dermoscopy, also known as epiluminescence microscopy, to evaluate moles and other skin lesions under higher magnification. Please call us today if you notice any new, concerning or changing moles on your skin.
